Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Chooza is built on trust. This policy explains how we handle your data honestly and transparently.

What We Collect

We collect: information you provide (name, email, stated preferences), content you create (video posts, comments, saves, check-ins), precise location when you grant permission (used for nearby search, check-in verification, and feed personalization), device push notification tokens, and usage signals (views, dwell time, saves). We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

How We Use Your Data

Your data powers venue scoring, personalizes your discovery feed, enables geofenced nearby results, verifies creator presence at venues, and enables social features like following and messaging. Aggregate, anonymized signals improve the platform's scoring models.

Your Privacy Choices

Optional processing — usage analytics, feed personalization, and re-engagement notifications — is controlled by you in-app under Profile → Privacy Choices, and is off until you turn it on where consent is required. Withdrawing consent is as easy as granting it. Each consent decision is recorded with its date and policy version.

Video & Media

Videos and images you upload are stored on secure cloud infrastructure and associated with your account. You retain ownership of your content. By uploading, you grant Chooza a license to display your content on the platform. Media associated with a deleted account is removed within 30 days.

Location Data

When you grant location permission, we use your precise GPS coordinates to: (1) show businesses near you in the feed and map, (2) verify you were physically present at a venue when you check in, and (3) pre-populate the business search when uploading a review. We do not share your raw coordinates with advertisers. Check-in coordinates are stored to maintain the integrity of verified reviews. You can deny location permission and still use core browsing and social features.

Third-Party Services

We use Supabase for authentication and file storage, TiDB for the database, Foursquare for venue data, and Expo for push notifications. AI-assisted features use a third-party language model. Sponsored and gifted creator posts are labeled at upload and displayed with a visible disclosure badge.

TikTok Connection (Optional)

If you choose to connect your TikTok account, Chooza uses TikTok's official Login Kit and Display API to access your basic profile information (open ID, display name, avatar) and the list of your public TikTok videos, for the sole purpose of letting you import your own reviews into Chooza. We store only video metadata — the video ID, embed link, cover image, and caption — and never the video files themselves; imported videos always link back to the original on TikTok with attribution to you. Chooza never posts to your TikTok account. You can disconnect your TikTok account at any time from Settings, which immediately stops all further access and revokes our tokens. Your use of TikTok data within Chooza is also governed by TikTok's own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Your Rights

You can update your profile, export your data, or delete your account from the Account settings screen. When you request deletion, all personal records linked to your account are removed from our systems within 30 days. Some anonymised content you created (video reviews) may remain on the platform with your identity removed. For data export or erasure requests, contact privacy@chooza.app.
